How hormones affect sleep.

For some women, the week or two before their period can trigger sleep to become poor. Some women also experience sleep struggles starting at 35yo+. The root hormonal cause is the same in both scenarios: a decline in progesterone. Progesterone is lovingly known as "nature's Valium" due to it's calming effects and mildly sedating effects. It chills us out and helps our sleep to be more restorative. Progesterone naturally declines before the start of our period each month, and in midlife. Supplementing progesterone can be a powerful and helpful tool in your sleep arsenal. Talk to your hormone expert provider for more info!
